Ask anyone who attended. They will tell you, the Icebreaker this year was great! About 80 members and guests sat down to a wonderful seafood buffet on Saturday, May 14. "The food was hot, delicious, and plentiful," was a recurring comment from those who attended. "Our table was continuously cleared, and we never had to wait on drinks," was another. The dinner started with a salad bar and grilled shrimp, followed by quantities of lobster, crab legs, fish, prime rib, and scallop shish-kabobs. Not to mention the corn bread with honey butter; and chocolate cake and lemon mousse for desert.
A big thank you goes to Lynn and Donna for making the shrimp and kabobs. And let's not forget to give another big thank you to Lisa and her crew for making this the best Icebreaker in several years!
May 8 was clean up day. Not only did the members come together to help get the Club looking great for the new season, but it coincided with getting our refurbished flag pole put up as well. Several volunteers helped rake the front lawn, sweep the promenade, and pick up trash from around the campus. At the same time, a special group of workers hired by the Club (and assisted by Club member volunteers) worked on getting our flagpole put back up in its place. The flagpole has had nothing done to it since 1979, so it was taken down, repainted, re-roped, new pulleys added, and put in the ground with some strong welding. A large crane was required to lift the flag pole and set it in place along with welders to weld the pieces together and weld the pole to its base.
After the work was done, everyone enjoyed complimentary hot dogs and beverages, provided by the Staff, to let members know how much the Club appreciates their sense of community. When you get a chance, give a shout out to the Board, Staff, and Members for contributing their time to make this a successful clean-up day.
The board, along with Commodore Bower, would like to thank each and every member that attended the 2021 Commodore’s Dinner. Jinnger Moore did an amazing job organizing the event; thank you Jinnger! A special thank you to Ben & Sonya Gruner for hosting the event at their wonderful facility, as well as Ludovico’s for the delicious food.
We had a great turnout, with about 80 members and guests. The auction of baskets, provided by the board members plus Dick Gruner, raised an impressive $3,650.00! Thank you to all who bid on the wonderful baskets.
It was a great night to see old friends and meet new ones. We are extremely excited for the upcoming season and cannot wait to see you all at the Casper Boat Club! Remember, the Club opening is April 16th.
It's not only the Board that contributes to the betterment of the Club; CBC members contribute as well. Often you can find members bussing tables in the Club on a busy night, helping someone launch a boat, picking up trash, or cleaning up their campsite. Can you say seafood-fest? That’s what greeted members who attended the 2019 Icebreaker on May 18. Luscious lobster, sizzling scallops, and (pre) cracked crab legs were just a few of the items on the menu. Additional food included various shrimp, roast beef, pork loin, veggies, and salad bar. Over 90 people attended, and virtually all members gave a thumbs up on the quality and quantity of the food. In addition, having the food in the bar and allowing people to move from the dining room to the bar through the hallway, proved to be a popular change in serving the buffet style menu. Most everyone agreed the cost of the buffet was a great value. A big thank you to the servers, cooks, and bartenders for making this a very successful event. Make sure you attend next year!
Yes. The Kentucky Derby has always been known to be the "most exciting two minutes in sports," and this year's Derby certainly lived up to that reputation. A muddy track and no clear pick for the winner, made the Derby extra exciting to watch this year. After placing bets, the members who attended the Derby party on May 4, cheered their horses on to victory. At the conclusion of the race, those who bet on horse number seven, were ready to enjoy their winnings. But wait! An objection was lodged and the winner was no longer the winner! The winning horse (Maximum Security) was disqualified, making the second place horse (Country House), the winner of the 2019 Kentucky Derby.
Many Club members attended dressed in their finest Derby attire, and prizes were given for best dressed and best hat...not to mention the winnings earned by placing bets. A great time was had by all as the traditional drinks, Mint Julep and infused Strawberry Lemonade, were served along with some great food. Each year, the Kentucky Derby seems to get better, and it's quickly becoming the "kick-off" event for the new season. Don't miss it next year!
The Commodore's Party was held Saturday, March 2 at The Hangar. Over 50 members attended the gathering to enjoy conversation, cocktails, and a dinner choice of chicken, ribeye, or salmon.
Thanks to the five past Commodores who attended, along with members of our current Board, who provided generously for the drawings. Board member C.J. Edwards could not attend due to an injury. We wish him a speedy recovery. (more board info here)

All in all, great party and a great way to kick off the 2019 summer season!
The Last Blast party (Sep 2) was organized and managed mainly by the CBC staff (thank you!). The theme was Greek Olympics and teams participated in various games throughout the day, including horseshoes, vollyball/badminton, croquet, cornhole, ladder golf, egg relay, and more. Games were set up on the lawn, swim beach, dining room, and Hobie beach. Prizes were awarded.
The games were followed up with a Greek style buffet (gyro bar, dirty rice, green beans, soup & salad, Baclava, and citrus cheesecake), and a DJ playing tunes on the patio until late in the evening. Special drinks and a satellite bar on the patio enhanced the fun, as well as the togas worn by the staff. All in all, a great day and evening to celebrate the end of the summer season. We look forward to increased participation and even more fun next year for the Last Blast!
A sort of drab day with rain and clouds did not keep CBC members from enjoying themselves. You'd think with Martini and Karaoke on the same night, you would get a lot of karaoke singers showing their stuff. And you would be right! About 30 people showed up to participate in karaoke right after the sampling of martinis. The martini menu had a wonderful variety of 5 different martinis. The list (click on menu to see larger size) included The Witness, Wedding Cake, Thin Mint (reported to be the favorite) and others. All of these concoctions were a delight to taste. And bonus...you got to keep the special martini glass provided with your drink!
Karaoke followed (emceed by Tim) with many people doing solos, duets, and trios, as well as performing several times. The crowd was enthusiastic often singing out the chorus lines or simply jumping up and getting into dance mode. A great night no matter the weather. Hopefully, we will have even more participants (and fun!) next year.
The Poker Run took on a bit of a different tone this year as long time club member and sponsor, Larry Rubis, retired from organizing the event giving others a chance to continue this great endeavor. This year Lynn Burgess stepped up to fill the void left by Larry, and created a Mardi Gras themed poker run, which benefited two charity organizations; Meals on Wheels and Hunting with Heroes.
Purple, green, and gold were the predominant colors as members decorated their boats and created costumes for the event based on a Mardi Gras theme. After picking up their poker cards at various stops around the lake, the final stop was the east side of Goose Island where a massive floating dock had been constructed. People stopped for burgers and hot dogs, graciously prepared by Wheels on Meals staff. As some boats left, others came in to take their place. While the parking was somewhat limited, all agreed this was a really great concept and enjoyed the idea of meeting in the middle of the lake. Judging of boats and costumes was done at the island. Winners will be posted here shortly.
After the "run," members enjoyed a great dinner on the lawn at the Club, along with games, an auction to raise money for the charities, and great DJ music after. The auction had some great items for bid, including packaged meat, vacation in Costa Rica, and water toys, to name a few. Total amount given to the charities is still being determined and will be posted here when calculations are complete.
All in all, a great time was had by all. If you didn't participate in this year's Poker Run, put it on your list for next year. Not only is it a good time, but it helps our Casper Community charity programs. Check out some pics below.
