May 8 was clean up day. Not only did the members come together to help get the Club looking great for the new season, but it coincided with getting our refurbished flag pole put up as well. Several volunteers helped rake the front lawn, sweep the promenade, and pick up trash from around the campus. At the same time, a special group of workers hired by the Club (and assisted by Club member volunteers) worked on getting our flagpole put back up in its place. The flagpole has had nothing done to it since 1979, so it was taken down, repainted, re-roped, new pulleys added, and put in the ground with some strong welding. A large crane was required to lift the flag pole and set it in place along with welders to weld the pieces together and weld the pole to its base.
After the work was done, everyone enjoyed complimentary hot dogs and beverages, provided by the Staff, to let members know how much the Club appreciates their sense of community. When you get a chance, give a shout out to the Board, Staff, and Members for contributing their time to make this a successful clean-up day. |
